Monsoon Road trip to Saputara
26th August 2016

It’s monsoon and nothing better would the travel junkies would like to do than take a road trip to experience the gorgeous green and the pleasure of rains. I had been on one such amazing road trip to Saputara and I just cant get over it. All thanks to CEAT Tyres for making our trip a success.

Saputara, a densely forested region in the Sahyadri range is the only hill station in the Dang district of South Gujarat state at an altitude of 1000 meters. The name of Saputara stands for “Abode of the serpents”.

I took a road trip during monsoon in August’13. Truly, a place this is in the nature’s womb with dense forests, green hues with lush flowers, the fog, rains dropping on the leaves. Away from the busy city life, a perfect getaway if you are looking for serenity and peace. Also a great place for couples as it turns out to be a romantic heaven, but I was on a family trip

The weather of this place remains pleasant throughout the year, but the monsoon season has its own charm, with the greenery at its best. I did not miss waking up early and going for morning walks, the fog and the beauty of the place with the water droplets all around the leaves makes everything look just so serene.

Our first stop was to the Botanical Garden and then to the amazing Gira Waterfalls. The three days that we spent here went by walking around in the hill station, boating at the Saputara lake, visiting the temples, eating at the local shops.

Things to do in Saputara :

Botanical garden, 49 kms. from Saputara, is a large 24-hectare garden with 1,400 varieties of plant from all over India.

The Gira waterfalls, 49 kms. from Saputara, is located off the Saputara-Waghai road is a breathtakingly beautiful view around monsoon.

Shabridham Temple This temple about 4 kms from the village Subir, off the Ahwa Navapur road, unfolds the mythological story of the lady Shabari, who offered the berries “ber” to Lord Rama & his brother Lakshman when they reached here during their search of Sita after she was forcibly taken away by Ravana.

Other activities such as wildlife viewing, trekking, hiking, boating, nature walks can be done at Saputara.

Reaching Saputara : The nearest airport is Vadodara, 309 kms away from Saputara. The nearest railway station in Waghai, 50 kms away. Its well connected to the cities and taking a road trip during rainy season is much more recommended as the greenery is at its best.
