SMT is a concept of empowered teams that work on the shopfloor to manufacture tyres with minimum supervision. Plant leadership team only sets the plant goals and direction.
This includes boys and girls in the age group of 18-25 years. They continuously go through regular learning interventions on soft skills and technical skills.
Working with CEAT has changed my life in many ways. People in my village respect me more now. My parents are proud of me and often express their joy at how efficiently I carryout house-hold responsibilities, just like a male member of the family. When I joined CSTL, I was one out of the six women in my team. I’d never operated any of the machinery at the plant before, but I was a quick learner. My decision to be a part of the toughest process, ie. tyre building, wasn’t met well by my family and friends. Everyone quipped that the job was only meant for boys and I didn’t stand a chance. Building a tyre which is much heavier than me is no easy task, but I’ve mastered the art. I live alone in Ambernath, am pursuing a part-time BE while working at CSTL and also funding my sister’s BE course alongside. I wish to do a Ph.D. in the near future. I'd never imagined that what started off as an exercise would turn out to be my biggest passion. At the age of 28, post my first child, I had gained a lot of weight. So, I started running to reduce my weight. To be honest, the runs weren’t easy. As I got better, I started winning awards and was soon participating in marathons. Every new win only motivated me to get better. At times when my runs requires me to stay away from the family, my husband stays home and takes care of my little one. I come from a humble and extremely supportive family residing in Betul, Madhya Pradesh. My journey with CEAT began in November 2016 and I’ve strived to do my best ever since. This year I clocked an average of 558 tyres per shift over a span of 7 days of the Dream Run, which was much higher than the departmental average of 500 tyres. It was a feat that no other man in my department had achieved! To add to it, I’d passed the mark of 600 tyres per shift thrice in a week. It brings me great joy to see how proud my parents are. They've done a lot for me and I’m really happy that I am able to support my household too. Balancing work and a part-time BE course isn’t easy, but I’m determined to keep getting better.
